Help finding free protection for older laptop?

I have a laptop that has windows 98 on it... and I was wondering what firewall/antivirus or whatever else I need to put on it, so I can safely use it.

I don't download anything to it, and it is more for work than games, but it is always better safe than sorry.

Please include links if you can. Thanks!

I would simply use two very effective freeware programs: AVG anti-virus for virus protection and Outpost "Free" as a firewall. Both of these programs will work with Windows 98. See the links below.......

choose the first option, its pretty good site, Adaware, and Sbybot search and destroy are pretty good, others are pretty good, from what i've heard
Careful with some of that advice you already have been given. Not all programs will work with Windows 98.

I use Spybot and Ad Aware (both for spyware protection) and AVG Free (antivirus) on a Windows ME machine. All are free for personal use.

If you check their system requirements, you will see whether they will work with Windows 98. (It may be possible that Ad Aware 2007 will not but Ad Aware SE Personal will.) You can find these programs and more at download.com.

Good luck!
Use ccleaner found at http://www.ccleaner.com

there is also superantispyware found at http:www.superantispyware.com

AVG Free found at http://www.free.grisoft.com
