Is AVG and AVAST the same thing?

Ok, you guys answered me about getting free antivirus, but what is the difference with AVG and Avast? Are they together? Do I download both if there not? or are they just two seperate anti virus protection software? If so which is the better?

AVG and Avast are 2 different free antivirus apps from 2 different companies. AVG is easier to use and does not take up a lot of resources. Avast on the other hand is a better scanner but it takes a lot of resources on your PC. Having used both, I am now using a much better antivirus : AVIRA AntiVir PE. This app has better virus detection than AVG and does not take much resource like Avast. Try it and you'll see http://www.free-av.com/

Avg pound for pound is the best out....its free and antiviruses like Norton and Mcafee cant hold a candle to it...it doesnt have as many options as the others but unlike Norton and especially Mcafee if u decide that u dont want it just uninstall it and its all gone.......Mcafee is almost impossible to get rid of.....plus w/ AVG when it finds a problem it shows u were the root of the problem is, which is nice because if for some reason Avg cant delete or quarrentine the issue it shows u exactly where its at in ur comp so u can manually delete it.....updates automatically....totally hands free.....plus its not a resource hog like Norton...Avast is another free one but it doesnt compare to AVG......u wont be disappointed w/ this program.... enjoy :)

No. These are two different products from two different companies. While AVG comes from Grisoft, Avast is the creation of Alwil.

From my experience with these two, Avast is definitely better.

But if you feel otherwise, try AOL's Active Virus Shield. This one is powered by Kaspersky and is very good. It's free and detects many viruses (virii?) undetected by AVG, Avast etc. And of course, it doesn't slow your system's startup down.
No they are not .They are av products of two different organisation. Both have free and paid version of quality anitvirus software .However Avast has higher virus detection rate and is prefered over AVG anytime.Besides it get updated more frequently

problem is i have norton antivirus also spy doctor spydoctor says i have trojan popuper 3 infections 6threats 50 infections adware.advertising 3 inf,application tracking cookies 2 inf,trojan.psguard_desktop_highjacker 16 inf

adware.componet.sbsoft19 inf, adware.winfixer 7inf. inf=infection when i run norton virus scan, it says none found or detected! now which one should i believewhen i shut down comp a little while ago it took almost 20 minutes oly had comp for 5 months so i'm a new at this, never had comp course am trying to self learn who evergives me best ans will get 10 points also let me know if i need to delete norton or spywaredoctor or both if i need to download different virus protection also like to mention that spywaredoctor can get rid of these but i have to purchase i think they called it an upgrade I would but can't afford it right now thanks to anyone that can help

This is what I would do, run this 2 scans listed below. They are both free and work good. If it is really there, these 2 programs will find it. After you download them, update them to get the full affect.

My Norton Internet security 2007 has expired and i will not renew it. i have Avast on my PC but it w

work because norton internet security is on. i disabled Norton but still Avast will not run. Do i have to unistall Norton internet security to run my Avast antivirus or is there another free antivirus program i can install and keep Norton on my pc? the reasn i have decided to keep Norton because it still works, but will not protect me against *new viruses..... but it still protects against antispam and other stuff. ...i may wait for Norton internet security 2008(software, which is not out yet, even though it takes up a lot of ram space and cost $60.00.

go to the Norton site and down load Norton anti virus remover this will remove your Norton anti virus, then install avast, i recommend it .

i have a few trojan droppers and a few i cant get rid of.. i have norton antivirus corporate edition in my computer but it doesnt seem to get rid.. they are just quarrinetined(sorry for spelling) what is the best product free download that will actually get rid of these pesky things.. it seems that what ever i look up.. i dont trust any of them.. unless someone has experienced the product.. should i go back to using somethng else like AVG or avast? please tell me.. i recently am using DSL.. and it seems i am getting more problems from dsl than cable..

hi...norton is crap...it misses loads of things...download the free home edtion of avast...do a thorough scan and it will take things off your computer you never thought you had

I used a program called killbox to get rid of the ones that i had. I think it's www.killbox.net, and it was amazing because i tried everything else and nothing would get rid of it and i downloaded this and it was gone
DSL or Cable should not make any difference regarding the Virus infection, but your ISP provider's server protection will make the difference. Have you tried to delete the protected files in Norton Anti-virus? You should be able to delete those files under Norton option control.

New AOL Active Virus Shield..Is it is as good as the old one?

I have been doing quite some research today. I wanted to test out the AOL Active Virus Shield Powered By Kapersky, But, When i went to its link I found "AOL Active Virus Shield Powered by McAffee".

I didn't download anything yet, and am Currently using AVG 7.5 Internet Security. It seems to be okay, but I want to use seperate things instead of an all-in-one security suite.

Is it as good as the Kapersky one? If not, Where can I get the Kapersky one?..Or, Which is a better FREE antivirus?

it isnt as good as the old one=it is much better. they have fixed many issues that the first tool had and added stronger detection tools into the virus scanner.hope this helps you.
